ABOUT PREVCON

PrevCon / ABOUT PREVCON

PrevCon

The Safe Kids Worldwide Childhood Injury Prevention Convention (PrevCon) is one of the largest gatherings of safety professionals in the world dedicated solely to the field of childhood injury prevention. It brings together leading experts, advocates, academics, and partners to share best practices and experiences with the aim of increasing our collective impact.

At Safe Kids, we focus on Equity in Child Safety. A commitment to equity is critical to achieving our mission to keep kids safe from preventable injuries. At PrevCon 2023 we will continue exploring strategies to identify and engage with communities at increased risk and those who have been historically underserved. Education and meeting parents where they are is important to the mission but not enough. We must also focus on systems that impact the families we serve.

Safe Kids Worldwide

Safe Kids Worldwide is a nonprofifit dedicated to protecting kids from preventable injuries, the number one cause of death to children in the United States. Around the world, a child dies every minute from an injury that could have been prevented. Safe Kids Worldwide is a recognized resource for families, offering practical information on preventing injuries caused by motor vehicle crashes, fires, falls, poisoning and other risks. Through more than 400 coalitions in the U.S. and partners in more than 30 countries, Safe Kids works with children’s hospitals, trauma centers, first responders and public health experts to get life- saving information to families. With a foundation of research, Safe Kids delivers on the mission through advocacy, education, programs and awareness efforts. Since 1988, Safe Kids has helped reduce the U.S. childhood death rate from unintentional injury by 61 percent.

What is Hill Day?
Hill Day is an opportunity for coalitions and coordinators to meet with their Congressional legislators while in DC to attend PrevCon. Wherever you are in your journey as an advocate, we encourage you to consider Hill Day as a chance to engage and educate your Representatives, Senators, and their staff about child injury prevention and your coalition’s great work. Hill Day will be held just after the conference concludes, on Thursday, July 27. SKW staff will provide coalition participants with support requesting, scheduling, and preparing for their meetings, as well as day-of support on the Hill. Due to limited space at the conference hotel on Wednesday night, the SKW team is working to secure an additional hotel block closer to Capitol Hill to accommodate Hill Day participants. If you would like to take part in Hill Day, please fill out our brief survey here. Questions on Hill Day can be directed to Shane.
